Research students of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research and Training Institute (Mahajyoti) have taken to the streets to demand that scholarship be given to research students from the date of registration. The students sat on hunger strike in front of the Social Welfare Department from Monday. It is said that the students who have qualified have not received the scholarship yet.
1 thousand 539 applications were received for Research Scholarship. The ad appeared on 1 May 2022. The application and original documents received were checked between September 1 and September 9. Out of which 1 thousand 226 applications were qualified. In the meeting of Mahajyoti Board of Directors held on 1st November, it was decided that 1 thousand 226 eligible candidates will be given scholarships from the sanctioned date of 1st November.
The award letter was issued on December 13, deciding to pay Rs.31 thousand per month for the first two years, along with HRA and incidental expenses, and for the next three years, Rs.35 thousand along with HRA and incidental expenses. It was clarified by Mahajyoti office that the salary of the first two months will be received by the end of January 2023. However, as of March, the students have not yet received the scholarship amount. The angry students started a hunger strike from Monday.
Student demand
The students demand that the scholarship should be given from the date of registration of the university. Scholarships are awarded from the date of registration of the University from the date of registration of the University by other institutions including ‘Barty’. However, the students said that ‘Mahajyoti’ gives from their approved date. A statement was often given to the state government and administration in this regard. The students said they were on a fast because he was shown a basket of vegetables.
Balu Chavanas, Vidyanand Wagh, Jayashree Bhavsar, Savita Gaikwad, Ashwini Kasure etc. students are on hunger strike and Baliram Chavan, Somnath Chaure, Ankush Sonawane, Ram Parkhe, Amit Kute, Mahendra Munde, Lanka Mandawat, Sharda Shelke, Jayashree Bhavsar, Jayashree Bhuskute, Meera Gaye and other students are present at the hunger strike.
While the appointment of hourly and contractual assistant professors was available, the students started full-time research by leaving them. The scholarship is ineligible from 1st November 2022 when the registration in the university is around November 2021. Due to the decision, the students will not get the scholarship for one year. We demand that the scholarship be given from the date of registration as there is a financial loss of one year.
