Murthy took a bold step to introduce computer and library facilities in all schools in Karnataka and taught computer science. He received the Best Teacher Award from the Rotary Club in 1995. Murthy is known for his social work and contribution to Kannada and English language literature. Dollar Daughter-in-Law (English: Dollar Daughter-in-Law), a novel she originally wrote in Kannada and later translated into English as Dollar Bahu, was adapted into a television drama series by Zee TV in 2001. Murthy has also acted in the Marathi film Pitrurup and the Kannada film Prerna.
Early Life and Education of Sudha Murthy
Sudha Murthy was born on August 19, 1950 in Shigaon, Karnataka to Dr. RH Kulkarni, a surgeon and his wife Vimala Kulkarni. And his siblings were brought up by their parents and grandparents.
Murthy B.V.B. from College of Engineering and Technology (now known as KLE Technological University), B.E. Completed Electrical Engineering. He was honored with a gold medal by the Chief Minister of Karnataka for securing the first rank. Murthy completed his ME in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Science. There too he topped and won a gold medal from the Indian Institute of Engineering.
Career of Sudha Murthy
Talking about the start of Sudha Murthy’s career, she became the first woman engineer to be hired in Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), India’s largest automobile manufacturer. Murthy joined the company as a development engineer in Pune and later worked in Mumbai and Jamshedpur. Murthy wrote to the company’s chairman to complain about male-only gender discrimination at the telco. He was immediately hired after that. She later joined Walchand Group of Industries in Pune as a Senior Systems Analyst.
