Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav had arrived in Mumbai to review various issues related to the Forest Department. The main focus of this review meeting was on the airport project of the state environment minister at Vihirgaon-Murthy in Chandrapur.

The Western Ghats are spread across six states. 13 districts of Maharashtra are included under this ghat. It includes a total of 2 thousand 133 villages. This entire area is 17 thousand 340 square kilometers. However, on Friday, the state demanded that 464 villages be excluded from this. Earlier Maharashtra thought that 388 villages should be excluded from this area. But now this number has been increased.
The meeting was held at Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s official residence, Varsha. In this meeting Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, Secretary P. Venugopal Reddy, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests YLP Rao, Maheep Gupta, Shailesh Tembhurnikar, Praveen Srivastava and Principal Secretary Vikas Kharge were present.

There is no concrete assurance from the Centre
Meanwhile, sources informed that Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav has not given any concrete assurance on this new demand of the state. Like the Himalayas, many rivers and tributaries originate from the Western Ghats and need to be conserved, Yadav said.
Yadav was informed in this meeting that the decision to exclude additional villages from sensitive areas was discussed in the monsoon session of the state legislature. Yadav has said in the meeting that the committee related to this subject will come and discuss in the state.
