At Miraj town in Sangli, shops and hotels were demolished around midnight with the help of JCB. The local residents have claimed that Brahmanand Padalkar, brother of BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar and Zilla Parishad member, demolished seven properties with the intention of taking possession of the site illegally.
Seven properties such as two hotels, a medical store, travel, office, a house, a pan shop along the road have been demolished. Shops and houses have been demolished with the help of JCB in the middle of the night. Citizens have alleged that Padalkar had come to take control of the place with the help of many people.
A large number of police forces have been deployed at the site of the incident. The work of filing a case on the complaint of citizens is going on. Brahmanand Padalkar is elder brother of MLA Gopichand Padalkar. It is reported that a case has been registered against 100 people including them.

Meanwhile, MLA Gopichand Padalkar has explained that the cuttings were illegal, my brother has not done anything wrong. Brahmanand Padalkar issued a notice on 16th (December) that remove the encroachment within 24 hours in your own way, the municipal corporation sent a reminder notice the day after that to remove the encroachment, Padalkar said that the encroachment was removed last night.
There is no wrong doing. Basically only those living there were illegal. Padalkar said that when those poor people have no connection with this place, they don’t have a name, they don’t want to be homeless, so they have built a house on Mhaisal Road.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg is under construction in Miraj. The work of removing the encroachment on that road is going on on behalf of the municipality. We took away the encroachment on the plot which is in my brother’s name. On the contrary, we have helped the Municipal Corporation. Padalkar also said that we told the encroached citizens that the notice of the municipality has come, but those citizens did not remove the encroachment, so we removed the encroachment as a help to the municipality.
