Till 1982, this mace was given on behalf of Maharashtra State Wrestling Council. But then after the death of Maharshi Mamasaheb Mohol, his son former MP Ashok Mohol started the tradition of giving mace to the winner of this competition in memory of Mamasaheb. The family has continued this tradition for the last 35 years.
As soon as the Maharashtra wrestling tournament is announced, Ashok Mohol starts making this silver mace and carries this mace himself to the place where the competition will take place.
