Sushmita shared an experience about winning the Miss Universe title, this time she said, ‘When I went for Miss India, we didn’t have enough money to wear designer clothes and go on stage. I needed 4 outfits. We were middle class people. My mother said that people don’t come to see clothes, they come to see you. Went to Sarojini Nagar market to buy clothes. Then there was a man in a petticoat below us in the garage, he went and handed it to him and said this dress is going to be on TV, make it good. So he made my winning gown out of that cloth. Similarly, he made gloves out of Rs 20 socks on his hands. The actress adds, ‘My mother folded the fabric left over for my gown into a flower and at the same time my mother bought new socks and cut them and put elastic on the black socks, all while I was wearing gloves.
