Why are the medal winning wrestlers who are raising the honor of the country protesting? Bajrang Poonia, Sakshi Malik also in the field

New Delhi: Wrestlers who took India to new heights and won medals in the Olympics have taken a stand against the Indian Wrestling Federation. These Indian wrestlers, who beat big wrestlers in the arena, are alleging that the wrestling federation is harassing them with its strange rules. Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat are included in the protestors and this movement is being held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

The wrestlers did not elaborate on their grievances or demands, but expressed their displeasure at the behavior of WFI president and BJP MP from Kaisarganj Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. Bajrang, Vinesh, Rio Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik, World Championship medalist Sarita More, Sangeeta Phogat, Satyavarth Malik, Jitendra Kinha and Commonwealth medalist Sumit Malik are seen protesting at Jantar Mantar.

Bajrang Punia said, Our fight is not against the government or Sports Authority of India. We are against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Bajrang’s coach Sujit Mann and physio Anand Dubey, along with the support staff, are also on strike. Singh has been the president of WFI since 2011 and was elected for a third consecutive term in February 2019. The wrestlers tweeted the hashtag Boycott WFI President and also tagged the PMO, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Wrestlers have tweeted about this on microblogging websites and Twitter with the tag #BoycottWFIPresident #BoycottWrestlingPresident. Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia wrote – Federation should support athletes. The federation has to take care of their sporting needs. If there is a problem, a solution has to be found, but what if the federation itself creates the problem? Now to fight, we will not back down.

Sources have informed that the wrestler will hold a press conference and present his statement to the media in the evening. However, Olympic medalist wrestler Sakshi Malik has criticized this on Twitter. She wrote – Wrestlers work hard and win medals for the country, but the federation has done nothing but let them down. We are being harassed by rules and laws that we do not agree with.

Geeta Phogat’s cousin Vinesh Phogat is also among the protestors. She tweeted – Athletes want respect and prepare with full vigor for the Olympics and other big games, but if the federation does not support them, their morale will go down. But now we will not give in, we will fight for our rights.
