Claims to weaken the bones
Although sunscreen protects the skin from the intense sun, it is also claimed in the fortnight of the Orthopedic Association of America that the bones are weakened by not getting sufficient amounts of vitamin D and D3. However, experts have clarified that this situation does not apply to Indians. ‘Basically, vitamin ‘D’ can only be obtained if sunlight falls directly on our skin and falls for a sufficient period of time; But in the overall dress of Indian persons, only the face and hands remain exposed and the rest of the body is covered with clothes. Therefore, only 10 to 15 percent of the sunlight falls on the Indian skin directly and thus the amount of Vitamin D obtained from sunlight is very low. On the other hand, we have to admit that the benefits of sunscreen are relatively high’, says Dr. Osteopath. Mangesh Panat said. So, though there are definitely obstacles in getting vitamin ‘D’ due to sunscreen, the total amount of people using sunscreen is less and if the whole body is exposed to the sun due to clothes, the chances of getting ‘D’ are less, observes the osteologist Dr. Reported by Jagannath Kaginalkar.
In fact, our country is not dependent on sunlight for Vitamin D. So an alternative to getting ‘D’ through diet or pills should be found and this is definitely an important need.-Dr. Mangesh Panat, Osteopathologist
Although sunscreen protects the skin, it should be noted that not everyone needs sunscreen. Only those with skin problems should use it and use it only when needed and it can definitely be beneficial to consult an expert while using it.-Dr. Ashish Sonarikar, Dermatologist
