Planning of agricultural water in the district along with drinking water released to Pune city from Khadakwasla project will be done in the canal committee meeting. A decision is likely to be taken to release water for agriculture from December 25.
A meeting of the Canal Advisory Committee is being held on Friday under the chairmanship of Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil. The attention of the Pune Municipal Corporation along with the Water Resources Department has come to this meeting. As this is the first meeting of the canal advisory committee under the chairmanship of Patil, the water for agriculture in the district will also be decided along with Pune. Khadakwasla, Varasgaon, Panshet in Khadakwasla chain project to Pune city; Also, water is released from Pavana and Bhama Askhed dams.
With the addition of 34 villages to the city, the need for water in Pune is increasing and water is needed for agriculture. Therefore, as the water requirement of Pune is increasing instead of decreasing, the farmers of the district have the right to get water for agriculture as well as for drinking.
