Gandhinagar : Self-proclaimed religious guru Asaram Bapu has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Sessions Court in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, for raping a young female follower. Sessions Court Judge DK Soni sentenced Asaram. On Monday, the court convicted Asaram in the case, while six others, including Asaram’s wife, were acquitted due to lack of evidence. Meanwhile, Asaram was produced in court through video conferencing. Asaram is currently lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail.
A court in Gandhinagar convicted self-proclaimed spiritual guru Asaram Bapu in a 2013 female disciple rape case. In this case, the session court sentenced Asaram today, Tuesday (January 31). Sessions Judge D. K. Sony reserved a decision on the matter on Monday. The court acquitted Asaram’s wife and six other accused for lack of evidence. According to the ‘FIR’ lodged at the Chandkheda Police Station, Asarambapu raped a disciple of the ashram several times between 2001 and 2006.
Special Public Prosecutor R. C. According to Kodekar, the court convicted Asaram under sections 376 2 (c) (rape), 377 (unnatural offence) and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code. Asarambapu has been convicted in another rape case and is currently in jail in Jodhpur.
What exactly is the case?
The case of female student rape is 22 years old. In October 2001, an FIR was registered for raping a disciple at an ashram in Surat. The victim, who is a disciple of Asaram, had filed this case against a total of seven people. Since then, the hearing of the case was going on in the sessions court of Gandhinagar. On January 29, the Sessions Court convicted Asaram Bapu, while acquitting six other accused.
