Tourists and trainers got stuck on a 50 feet high power pole. The fire brigade did not have such a tall ladder. So a plan was devised to bend the pole to save both lives. Mattresses and nets were placed under the poles. After this, they managed to save the female tourist and the paragliding trainer. Both were admitted to Taluka Hospital in Varkala. His health is good. The paragliding instructor hails from Varkala and the lady is a resident of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Fire brigade vehicles reached to rescue both. But the fire brigade did not have ladders high enough to reach them. That’s why both were hanging on the pole for almost 2 hours.
Such incidents have happened before during paragliding. Two people died paragliding last year. Both incidents happened on the same day. A South Korean man died while paragliding in Gujarat’s Mehsana district. A 30-year-old man from Maharashtra died while paragliding. The incident took place in Dobhi area of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.
