Gangtok: The Sikkim government has made important announcements to increase the fertility rate. In order to increase the population, the state government has taken important decisions. An employee in the service of the State Government will be given a pay increment after having a second child. After having more than two children, they will be given double salary increment. Its implementation has started from January 21.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said that child care attendants will be made available to take care of newborn children of women employees in the service of the state government. The rate of population growth in Sikkim is very low. 40 percent of men and 25 percent of women in the state are not married. Fertility rate in the state is decreasing. Now the government has started taking steps to increase it.

After motherhood, female employees will get 365 days leave. An employee who becomes a father will get 30 days leave. If a couple is infertile, the government will subsidize the IVF procedure. Chief Minister Tamang gave information about this in a program. The government has proposed recruitment of women aged 40 and above. These women will have the task of taking care of the babies after the female employees give birth. The government will give them Rs 10,000 per month for this.

This means that women in Sikkim give birth to one child on an average. The ratio is 0.7 in urban areas and 1.3 in rural areas. This is a matter of concern from the point of view of the state government.
