Shubman Gill made history in ODI cricket; The fourth century was a record, the giants fell behind

Indore: In the third and final ODI against New Zealand at the Holkar Ground in Indore, both the Indian openers not only shared double-centuries but also created several records. Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored his 30th ODI career while young batsman Shubman Gill scored his fourth career century.

In the third ODI, New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first. India started batting and New Zealand’s decision looked suicidal. Rohit and Shubman pair started washing the bowlers. Both of them scored 82 runs in 10 overs. Rohit completes ODI century after 3 years. Gill also completed his fourth century after that. Many records were also set in Gill’s century.

This is Gill’s third century in the last 4 innings, known as the new run machine of the Indian cricket team. He completed his century in 72 balls against New Zealand. Gill had a chance to make a double century today as he completed his century in the 28th over. But he was dismissed for 112 off 78 balls.

Shubman Gill batted with a bang in the ODI series against New Zealand. In this series he scored 360 runs in 3 matches. This is the highest score by a batsman in a 3-match series in the history of ODI cricket. He has tied Pakistan captain Babar Azam for this record. Babar scored 360 runs in 3-match ODI series against West Indies in 2016. Had Gill scored one more run today, he would have overtaken Babar.

Gill set another record to his name. He scored his fourth ODI century in the 21st innings. This is the fourth fastest century by an Indian player. Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan scored four centuries in 24 innings. Gill is ranked fourth in the list of world batsmen. While Imam ul Haq is on the first position and he scored 4 centuries in just the first 9 innings.
