Nagpur, April 18: Pollution is a big problem all over the world and research and measures are being taken to solve this problem at the global level. An in-depth study in the field of environment Nagpur The scientists of the nationally renowned National Environmental Engineering Research Institute i.e. CSIR NEERI have put in a lot of effort and have implemented a unique idea. Drones are designed to accurately assess pollution. So now it will be possible to check the air pollution of any place.
Air pollution levels can be measured through drones
From your city (Nagpur)
Through this drone, it will be possible to measure the level of air pollution. Neery named this device as Neery-moment-AQ. A unique application of this Assisted Vertical Profiling and Air Pollution, Air Quality can be checked with the help of drones. At high altitudes, in remote areas and in real time pollutant concentrations can be reliably measured with GPS devices. Automated sampling is possible using this drone. The drone can fly at different altitudes to study air quality parameters even in remote locations in urban and rural areas. Also this will save sampling cost and manpower.
Useful in urban and rural areas
Most of the time, it is difficult to measure the level of air pollution at different heights from the ground and between two buildings due to some geographical conditions and technical difficulties. Considering this shortcoming, Neeri, who is working in the environment sector, has devised a solution in the form of a drone. CSIR NEERI has developed a unique application of Drone and Assisted Vertical Profiling called Neeri-Khasan AQ. Different sensors can be attached to these drones depending on the need and payload capacity, including calibrated light weight sensor modules and commercial drones. This device will be useful for studying air quality parameters like PM, S02, NOx and CO in different urban and rural locations at different altitudes.
New technology on Z axis
The new system’s ‘multi-rotor’ UAV technology and environmental sensors enable ‘Z-axis’ data acquisition even in crowded urban environments with sky obstacles. Data capturing is very important for inference. With this device, pollutant concentrations can be reliably measured at high altitudes, in remote areas and in real-time with the help of GPS devices. Apart from this, concrete steps can be taken to improve air quality. Piyush Kokate, Senior Scientist of Neeri informed that the system created by the scientists of ‘Neeri’ will enable citizens living in high-rise buildings in different parts of the city to get information about the danger of air pollution.

Highlights of ‘Neeri-Kshan-AQ’
Any light weight sensor models can be attached for easy portability. Also vertical data collection is possible. Sampling costs can be reduced by up to 50% even in inaccessible zones. Automatic sampling is easily possible using this method.
Use of ‘Neeri-Kshan-AQ’
This instrument can be used to assess the impact of pollution levels in industrial clusters, traffic intersections, urban hotspots, municipal dumpsites. It is also possible to monitor pollutants at different heights around urban tall buildings to understand the pollutant and its dispersion. It will save manpower and it is possible to take samples from hazardous sources without human intervention. It is also possible to monitor the fencing around industrial sites, said Senior Scientist Piyush Kokate.
